2017 Win-in-Suzhou Venture Contest in Oceania Sydney press release

In order to continuously attract overseas talents to settle in Suzhou, the Suzhou Government has already held ‘Win-in-Suzhou’ international start-up competitions in North America, Oceania and Europe and has achieved great success. Quite some start-up talents took the opportunity to either work or start up their businesses in Suzhou both in the past and on-going.

Upholding the previous successful experiences of the competitions, the 2017 ‘Win-in-Suzhou’ Oceania Start-up Competition, co-organized by Winglong Pty Ltd Australia, UTS CSSA and New Zealand China Business Council, is now officially open. This year’s competition is hoping to attract projects at all levels, from idea startup all the way to commercialised mature projects, to Suzhou to enhance its economy and to lift the overall competitiveness of the region and the whole nation. The Media Conference for this year’s competition has been successfully held on 10th February 2017 at Haymarket HQ in Sydney Australia. Haymarket HQ is Australia's first dedicated coworking space with a strategic focus on Asia and the opportunities presented by the region's economic and technological renaissance. A not-for-profit dedicated to showcasing and harnessing Asian-Australian talent, innovation and leadership. Haymarket HQ is located in the heart of Sydney’s Chinatown and has around 50 desks spaces as well as meeting, workshop, and function spaces.

At the Media Conference, Education Counsel Ms. Zhao jing gave a speech on behalf of the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Sydney on the status of Chinese students studying in Australia and encouraging students and scholars to participate in this year’s competition and finally she wished the competition a great success. As the second speaker, Mr Yongzhi Liu from China Association for International Exchange of Personnel introduced the policy of Suzhou government to support the start-up competition. Then Emily Hung (General Manager of Winglong Pty Ltd) introduced the detailed schedule and agenda of the competition. She indicated that they will continuously try their best to attract more high-tech talents and projects to this competition. After that, Mr zhengyu Yu from UTS CSSA, Mr Terry Hilsberg from INNOHUB CAPITAL and Kevin Lee from JMF capital Pty Ltd gave speeches respectively.

This year’s start-up competition is open to a wide range of fields, including (not limited to) New Energy & Sustainable Development, New Materials, Medical Equipment and Biomedicine, High-end Equipment Manufacturing, New Generation of Electronic Information, Software and Integrated Circuits, Smart

Grids, Financial Services, Cultural and Creative Industries. The competition will serve as a high-level platform for start-up talents from Australia and New Zealand as it has gathered people from all backgrounds aiming to make a difference to the world we live in, with their innovative projects, various funding channels and favourable policies and business carriers available and readily accessible. Some projects will be selected and invited by Suzhou before the June competition to attend their annual International Elite Week taking place in early July to have their projects connected with China market, to settle and develop and also have a chance to enjoy the different start-up incentives and subsidies. There will also be chance of gaining up to 5 million RMB Angel investments for certain projects mutually agreed to land in Suzhou.

The final competition will be held on 27th May 2017 in Sydney with one first prize ($8000), one second prize ($4000) and all other prizes.
